For our one year anniversary, which was May 10th, we drove to California and spent a week in San Diego. We had an amazing time. It was perfect time to experience some rest and relaxation after a busy and stressful semester for Michael and and an equally stressful time for me from work as well. It took about 7 or so hours to travel there. We stayed just out of the down town area. We were just a short drive away from several beaches, seaworld, and the zoo. We were nervous about the traffic beforehand but when we got there it much more more manageable that we expected. When we arrived we checked in and drove straight to the nearest beach to dip our toes in the ocean and sand. The second day we went to ocean beach where Michael attempted surfing for the first time at Ocean beach (specifically for surfing). He rented a surf bored and wet suit and hit the waves. The first run made him extremely tired because he tried to cut into the big waves, but after a while he got the hang of it and was able to stand up a few times. We spent the whole day on the beach. There was a neat pier that extended way out into the ocean. There was a small cafe the was part of the pier where serious fisherman came to try their luck. From there we could see the big waves looking back at the ocean and watched the "professional" surfers. They were amazing to watch. The third day went to Seaworld. We had a great time there watching the dolphin, sea lion, pet, and whale shows. There were also some rides and of course lots of animal exhibits. I got to touch a dolphin and we both got to pet some sting ray. (they felt like mucusy slugs). We also went and saw the San Diego Temple and did a session there. The temple was breathtakingly beautiful inside and out. We were grateful we were able to spend time there away from the hectic world. We saw lots of site seeing in between the big events and went to several different beaches. We loved Cornida Island it had beautiful resorts and a great beach. The last day we went to the Zoo. We loved watching the big primates. Our favorite was watching the playful orangutans and baby gorilla. After a full of site seeing we jumped in the car and drove all the way home! It was a long day but defiantly worth it. It was a great trip full of adventure and relaxation. We couldn't believe how fast the first year went by and were so glad we had this time to celebrate our first year of marriage together and are looking forward for many many more to come!
Finding our way in and to San Diego. The beautiful San Diego Temple.
One of my favorite spots in San Diego. ”Unconditional Surrender,” is a 25-foot sculpture that brings to life a famous black-and-white image of a sailor kissing a young nurse in Times Square, New York City, on Aug. 14, 1945.
